Errors in Monte Carlo Simulations Using Shift Register Random Number Generators

چکیده
We report large systematic errors in Monte Carlo simulations of the tri-critical Blume-Capel model using single spin Metropolis updating. The error, manifest as a 20% asymmetry in the magnetisation distribution, is traced to the interplay between strong triplet correlations in the shift register random number generator and the large tricritical clusters. The effect of these correlations is visible only when the system volume is a multiple of the random number generator lag parameter. No such effects are observed in related models.

An Implementation of a 5-term GFSR Random Number Generator for Parallel Computations
This paper describes an implementation of a 5-term GFSR (Generalized Feedback Shift Register) random number generator that generates mutually uncorrelated random number sequences on computing nodes of networked personal computers (PCs). As GFSR generators have extremely long periods and their autocorrelation functions are known, it is possible for the generator on each computing node to generat...
متن کاملPseudo-random number generators for Monte Carlo simulations on ATI Graphics Processing Units
Basic uniform pseudo-random number generators are implemented on ATI Graphics Processing Units (GPU). The performance results of the realized generators (multiplicative linear congruential (GGL), XOR-shift (XOR128), RANECU, RANMAR, RANLUX and Mersenne Twister (MT19937)) on CPU and GPU are discussed. The obtained speed-up factor is hundreds of times in comparison with CPU. RANLUX generator is fo...
متن کاملSccs-746 Tests of Random Number Generators Using Ising Model Simulations
Large-scale Monte Carlo simulations require high-quality random number generators to ensure correct results. The contrapositive of this statement is also true – the quality of random number generators can be tested by using them in large-scale Monte Carlo simulations. We have tested many commonly-used random number generators with high precision Monte Carlo simulations of the 2-d Ising model us...

متن کاملAnalysis of random number generators using Monte Carlo simulation
Monte Carlo simulation is one of the main applications involving the use of random number generators. It is also one of the best methods of testing the randomness properties of such generators, by comparing results of simulations using different generators with each other, or with analytic results. Here we compare the performance of some popular random number generators by high precision Monte ...
